Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I specialize in treating adolescents and adults with a variety of anxiety and depressive disorders. I will work with you to address past trauma, decrease work-related stress and teach you skills to help get "unstuck" with challenges you may be facing. I also do a great deal of work with couples and families to address common relationship concerns, such as: communication, conflict resolution, trust, intimacy issues and financial concerns. Relationship therapy focuses on providing couples with skills to help increase trust, gain intimacy and strengthen their overall relationship. I am a Gottman Educator for "Bringing Baby Home" a program that specifically focuses on teaching couples how to keep their relationship strong when a new baby enters their relationship. These skills can be helpful for couples going through other transitions in their lives as well, such as re-locating, a change in career or loss of a family member. I co-founded Positive Change Counseling Center in 2006 and with 15 years of experience, continue to provide effective treatment to my clients. I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa in 2000 and a Masters of Arts from the University of San Diego in Marital and Family Therapy in 2002.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
