Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a licensed clinical social worker providing compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy to individual adults and couples. I completed my Masters of Social Work at Smith College School for Social Work. My masters research explored the psychological and emotional factors at play in the maintenance of significant weight loss. I received my post-masters training at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Adult Psychiatry, where I continue to practice part-time. Prior to finishing my MSW, I completed clinical internships at Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Adult and Child Psychiatry and Mills Peninsula Behavioral Health Adult Partial Hospitalization Program. My approach to therapy is "eclectic." I tailor my work with each of my clients based on their needs, drawing from my training in psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), exposure and response prevention protocols, motivational interviewing, and brief, solution-focused therapy. Working at Kaiser has afforded me experience with a wide range of client concerns and with clients from a wide range of socioeconomic, cultural, and relationship backgrounds. If, however, I believe you would be better served by another clinician, I will let you know and provide a referral.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
