Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My name is Jennifer Vera, and I am an bilingual therapist located in Berkeley, California. Throughout my career, I have worked with two distinct, though often overlapping, populations: young children and their parents, and adults healing from various kinds of trauma and looking to build more meaningful, joyful lives. I enjoy working with clients from a variety of backgrounds, including: young adults launching into higher education, career and relationships; new parents and parents of infants and toddlers; queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender nonconforming individuals; Individuals healing from trauma and oppression; and healers and helping professionals. As a psychotherapist, I am committed to helping you reach your most fulfilling life. My style is warm, collaborative and genuine. I draw from relational, psychodynamic, and developmental theories, with an emphasis on social justice and trauma-informed care. Together, we will identify your goals, build upon your strengths, and explore the feelings, beliefs and obstacles that hold you back. Using both reflective exploration and pragmatic problem-solving, I help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the tools to make the changes you desire.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
