Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My early experiences with Fritz Perls and Gestalt Therapy grounded me in a "here and now" existential framework. My own psychoanalysis and training at The Insitute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis have given me a good understanding of the dynamics of the interaction between therapist and client and the value of that relationship in helping the client to heal and grow. As an Adjunct Faculty member of Antioch Los Angeles' Masters in Psychology program for over 15 years, I have taught many courses which deepened my understanding of the theory and praocess of psychotherapy. Couples Counseling has been an abiding interest and I offer a practical, effective, empathic approach to relationship difficulties. I have been mediating since my college days, and have studied (and taught) many approaches to developing an inner spiritual life. When it fits a client's needs, I introduce some of these techniques and ideas into our work.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
