Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have been in practice since 1986 doing long and short term psychotherapy with adult individuals and couples. I draw from Jungian and other traditions of psychodynamic psychology, sometimes in combination with an extensive knowledge of Eastern and Western spiritual traditions, to help people find and follow the path that is uniquely theirs. Something special happens in the process of telling one's story to a carefully attuned and caring listener. Change in psychotherapy happens not so much through learning new ways of being, connecting past experience to the present, gaining insight, etc. although these things and more do occur. Rather, healing and change come about through the experience of being carefully attended to and understood.

Some of my special interests are: relationships, adults abused or neglected as children, survivors of dysfunctional families, former members of restrictive religious groups such as fundamentalist churches and cults, self-esteem, depression, grief and loss, transitions, gender related issues, creativity, and spirituality.

I am a graduate of The Psychotherapy Institute's two-year Supervision Study Program and am a CAMFT Certified Supervisor. I supervise beginning therapists in several training programs in addition to serving as a consultant for licensed psychotherapists.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
