Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a licensed psychotherapist. Most of my clients are individual adults, but I also specialize in helping families, parents and adolescents.
As a therapist, I focus on solving the problems that bring my clients to therapy. These typically include trouble relationships, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and/or career and mid-life concerns. I collaborate with my clients to better understand their problems, determine the causes, and implement needed changes. After resolving the presenting problem, my clients frequently stay in therapy to solve other problems or make more fundamental changes in their lives.
I have a psychodynamic orientation. This means that I believe that our past experiences have a strong influence over us today. It is important to understand these historic influences, if we are going to make fundamental changes in our current experience. By fully understanding our past, we understand ourselves. This understanding empowers us, in our lives, and allows us to reach our full potential.
My experience with children and families started with my training at the Julia Ann Singer Center, Antioch University Counseling Center and The Maple Counseling Center. The families that I have worked with are typically besieged with the pressures of life in Los Angeles; finances, schedules, divorce, and addiction. These stresses frequently make communication and intimacy almost impossible. I work to help families remember their strengths and move away from destructive patterns that develop in response to the difficulties of everyday life. I have also worked with children with special needs, and their families.
I teach Personality Theory and Family Therapy to graduate students in psychology at Antioch University Los Angeles. I meditate daily and bring a strong spiritual foundation to my work.
I am a father of two grown children and I came to this career after working in business for 20 years.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
