Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have a special affinity working with teens and adults over 55 years of age. They share the common challenges of being ignored, under-appreciated and marginalized. I empathize with teens as they navigate through difficult and complicated developmental and social changes. Teens struggle with independence-dependence expectations, substance use, difficult peer and family relationships, and school pressures. Regarding adults over 55, as one myself, I understand how changes in our bodies, careers, relationships, and losses can lead to depression and loneliness. Older adults are seeking new ways to be in the world that are genuine, creative, thoughtful and healthy. I provide individual, family and group counseling to teens dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, school pressures, substance use, trauma, sexuality and relationships. I offer individual and group counseling for adults (+55 yrs) challenged by job losses, financial anxiety, physical pain, loneliness, trauma, grief, depression, substance use and family conflicts. My social work background has provided me with a wealth of mental health experience across many social and cultural sectors: social advocacy, residential-treatment centers, schools, neighborhoods, crisis clinics, refugee centers and family service agencies. In addition, I have 25 years in business developing and financing commercial real estate.
