Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I chose to become a therapist after a successful carer of 12 years as a Programmer/Analysis in Aerospace in California. I felt the need to give back to my community and become more personally involved in the healing of the community. My areas of experience have been focused on providing therapy for victims of crime and abused child and adults; working with parents and their children during difficult times, and with individuals during life transitions and periods of crisis grieving. I have also worked extensively with felons guiding them through the passage from prison to mainstream life. My personal passions is in the application of Art Therapy in treatment. I have become aware of the power of the image to tell a tale of a thousand words and invite all my client to experience themselves through drawing and collage. I teach Art Therapy at a local college for therapists and have found this application to be a powerful tool for self discovery. I am concerned with the daily functioning of my clients and also with their spiritual perceptions. I have found that personal growth either from trauma or debilitating depression and anxiety can be achieved with greater depth and expediency by using art therapy techniques with traditional talk therapy. I have extensive experience working with children in play therapy and with their families to provide a reduction in negative behaviors and bring the family together into a unified functioning whole. Being a therapist is the guiding factor of my life.
