Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
As a therapist my approach is both practical and down to earth and well grounded in depth psychology, psychodynamic theory and a respect for each individuals unique path to a fuller life. I bring to my work twenty years of Soto Zen Buddhist training and practice and a deep commitment to respectful interfaith dialogue. I am an adjunct faculty member at the California Institute of Integral Studies where I received my Ph.D. in East West Psychology and where I teach courses in contemplative psychology and the psychology of spiritual direction. My aim in the therapeutic relationship is to support you in drawing on all your resources, mental, emotional, and spiritual to meet the challenges of life, heal what needs to be healed and move toward a fuller expression of who you are.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
