Personal Statement:
“I really love seeing people improve, helping them reach their full potential, and helping them get through their darkest moments. I am happy to work with any person who is not afraid to work in order to get better and have the courage to face it. My goal is to help set people free from their pain.” — Judy Fluor Runels Dr. Judy Fluor Runels has been working with people living with HIV and AIDS for over fourteen years. She has a Psy.D. in Psychology/Marriage and Family Therapy. She works with couples, individuals, children, and adolescents, assisting them to develop better relationship and communications skills, and has extensive experience in working with people living with a chronic or terminal illness. Her specialty is grief counseling, trauma, bereavement/loss issues, and caregiver burn out. Dr. Runels has run facilitated support groups for adults dealing with substance abuse issues, using a harm reduction model, has presented at HIV/AIDS conferences, assisted with HIV training for the County of Orange, and has done workshops on pain management, maintaining sobriety, and better ways to cope with stress. In 2010, she received an award from SCCPI, the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative, in recognition for contributions she has made to cancer relief and palliative care. In 2013, the Orange County Register honored Dr. Fluor Runels as an outstanding volunteer for her work with people living with HIV and AIDS with the AIDS Services Foundation. Dr. Runels' theoretical orientation is humanistic, existential, and experiential, and she is completing Certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). She is currently on the Medical Staff at Huntington Beach Hospital's Department of Psychiatry.
