Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My work is informed by who and how I am in the world and you have a right to know a bit about me as you consider whether you'd like to work with me. I believe therapists need to continually evolve not only their skills, but perhaps even more importantly, their selves. My self development has increasingly been toward being as fully present, moment to moment, as possible. It is from this place that clarity and compassion come which is then utilized in service to others. I work with teens and adults as well as couples and families, and I have provided counseling and psychotherapy since 2000. I have a counseling and psychotherapy private practice in downtown Santa Cruz. I work with clients at the level of symptom relief, core issues, and the spiritual in order to help clients live more authentic, satisfying, and happy lives. Grounded in deep listening and being fully in the present moment, I use a variety of approaches and skills tailored to the client, as we work in partnership to more fully understand problems and utilize strengths, as clients achieve their goals. I have advanced training in compulsive/addictive sexual and substance behaviors, couples counseling, and mindfulness. My Specialties include the following: Compulsive Problem Behaviors/Addictions, including substances and sex Teens and Drug use Problems/Harm Reduction Sexuality and Sexual enhancement Gender and Transgender Issues Spiritual Issues Existential Issues Depression and Anxiety Chronic illness Stress management Mindfulness based counseling Grief and Loss Life Transitions MidLife and Aging Couples Group Work

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
