Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have been a therapist in Santa Barbara county since 1974; state licensed since 1980. My style is ecclectic, meaning I use Gestalt techniques, reflective listening, gentle confrontation, and inner child work, among other modalities. Teaching individuals and couples assertiveness skills, exploring healthy sexuality and communication, and working on intimacy issues are some of my specialties. For many years i have lead groups for Adults Molested as Children, both men and women, as well as their partners, and have been inspired by the growth and healing I see in my clients.

Doing therapy has increasingly become a meditative and spiritual practice for me. I am often brought to tears and laughter in the counseling room, as I sit with my clients, hearing their pain and acknowledging their creativity and humor in dealing with life's challenges. I am continually touched that total strangers trust me with their deepest fears and am grateful that I can sometimes offer information and support which oftens leads to more peacefulness and empowerment for those people.

Reminding the client to stay with breath and in her/his body is also an important part of my work. I encourage my clients to bring in their dreams, as well as to keep a journal as an adjunct to therapy.

Please call for a brief telephone conversation, to see if we might work well together.
