Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Chatsworth and Sherman Oaks. I received a Masters degree and graduated with honors in Educational Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University Northridge. I received extensive clinical training at the Counseling Center at Philips Graduate Institute where I worked with individuals, couples, families and facilitate a court referred Anger Management Group as well as a Self-Esteem group for Iranian Women. I am a member of the National and local chapter organization of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I actively participate in training on various therapy related topics in order to remain current and connected to other specialists in our field. I am bi-lingual and bi-cultural. My family of origin emigrated from Iran in the early 60’s. I am fluent in Farsi (Persian) and was born and raised in the U.S. till the age of 12. I then moved back to Iran prior to the revolution and lived through the revolution as well as two years of the Iran & Iraq war. I am strongly familiar with acculturation issues and the many difficulties people may have experienced during tumultuous and unpredictable times. In my practice I work with individuals, couples and families dealing with issues of anger, post-traumatic stress, war, early childhood trauma, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, acculturation, self-esteem, grief and loss, infidelity, and pre-marital counseling. In addition to my private practice, I have been running an anger management group for the past 5 years and work with court mandated as well as self-referred individuals. I also facilitate a support group for Iranian women. The mission of this group is to empower and inform Iranian women so that they can initiate desired changes and manifest deserving relationships in a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment. Typically people seek my help when they are at a cross roads in their life or they are experiencing difficulty in their personal relationships. They want a change, but don’t know where to start. From the moment we begin therapy, I am walking with you on your therapeutic path. I am empathically listening to you and to what is causing you strife in your life whether it be from your past or difficulties in the present. I will assist you in making sense out of unclear, painful and confusing experiences so that you can gain the insight, strength, coping skills and empowerment necessary to make the change(s) you want. Often people ask me how I do therapy or what is my “approach.” I work from a few different perspectives that provide me with different lenses (figuratively speaking) to look through when working therapeutically with a client. Each client is unique and so are their needs. Each perspective offers a different way of understanding what a client may need to help them towards their therapeutic goal(s).
