Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Katie Brooks LCSW, is a passionate Board Certified Therapist who offers Individual, Marital, Group and Yoga Therapy. She is dedicated to building the bridge between mental and physical well-being. Her counseling is based upon the idea that intense emotions are a symptom of an underlying issue. Depression might feel like the problem, but it is really the signal that there is imbalance somewhere within your life. For example, you would not continue to run if you could feel that your ankle was broken. The pain is the messenger that demands you to stop. Ignoring emotional discomfort can be just as dibilitating and risks further damage. Coming to a decison to address mental discomfort is the first step to emotional freedom and balance. Congratulations for making it to this website. Upon first meeting Katie you will collaboratively assess the areas of your life that are causing dis-ease or discomfort. This requires a comprehensive assessment of many areas of your life and a creative, nonjudgemental treatment plan will be devised with your help. Katie is interested in helping you to manage overwhelming feelings, make sense out of anxious and depressed states, uncover solutions to your problems, and guide effective planning for your future. Katie has a skillful approach that blends western psychotherapy with eastern methods of healing that will encourage you to engage both your mind and body. This organic whole person method of healing will guide you toward relating to yourself and others with understanding, acceptance, patience, flexibility, appreciation and joy. Lastly, Katie believes that you have all the answers that you need in order to gain emotional freedom. She will help you to access these answers in a safe and compassionate way. Growth and healing begins here.

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
