Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have over 10 years experience working with individuals and families. My areas of interest include issues related to young adults (transitions, relationship, career and anxiety management) relationship dynamics in couples as well as working with older adults. I believe that the structure of the family as a complete unit needs to be addressed in order to bring about positive changes in the individual. I use mindfulness and compassionate awareness techniques in my counseling approach and firmly believe that every one is capable of positive change in his or her life, and that resiliency and the need for self-growth is inherent in each one of us. My counseling practice stems primarily from a strength-based approach. My clients value the insights, compassion and genuine respect I have for their struggles. I come from a multi-ethnic background and bring with me rich experiences of working with Asian, Hispanic and various immigrant communities. I am multilingual, and I am very sensitive and aware of the many challenges and issues that affect minority groups including identity, cultural assimilation and self-esteem. I have an insightful understanding of working with couples in inter-racial marriages and working with first generation immigrant families and their children.

During times like these it can feel like the world has been turned “upside down”. There is HOPE! You don’t have to figure this out alone.
