Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Kim has established herself working with children, adolescents, adults and families in a variety of situations. She has worked extensively with adolescents as a therapist in area high schools as well as her private practice. Her work at weSPARK Cancer Support Center has provided her an opportunity to help enhance the lives of those struggling with cancer as well as their friends and families. Kim emphasizes past and present relationships as a starting point for therapy. As those relationships may be with family, friends, work or even oneself, Kim approaches each client as a unique individual and customizes the therapeutic approach for that person. As each client is different, so is the path that individuals may take. Kim sees therapy as a collaboration where she and the client work together to uncover the source of current struggles and discover ways to improve the quality of life and attain desired goals.

Kelly Duggan Shearer, M.A.
Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
