Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Therapy creates a safe place to explore obstacles that exist in your life and to develop new skills that will provide different results. I approach each therapy session as a discovery process to explore the behavior patterns that are limiting your sense of fulfillment in life. I use a variety of techniques and skills to increase insight into the beliefs that are influencing your interactions. Together, we will identify incremental steps to initiate effective changes to meet your goals. Before therapy, clients often feel defeated, overwhelmed and at a loss for what to do next. Through my 14 years of clinic experience, clients have said that the work we did together alleviated these stressful emotions and gave them an increased sense of empowerment in their ability to manage the outcomes of their lives. I check-in with clients throughout our sessions to elicit their feedback on the pace and intensity of our work and encourage open discussion regarding their reactions to our emotional exploration. Through introspective questions clients identify alternative decision making skills, resulting in new ways to manage stress. I have worked with diverse populations who have faced a variety of challenges and learned how to thrive with the help of therapy. I am a warm and caring therapist, who takes the time to discover how your experiences are influencing your current life situation and what you would like to be different. I believe it is important to find moments of laughter even in therapy and provide encouragement by acknowledging the strengths you bring to the world. No matter how difficult the challenge, I believe you hold the answers Within You and I can help you discover them, contact me for a phone consultation if you would like to discuss working together.

Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
