Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My Approach to Psychotherapy

I am a psychotherapist for children, teens, men and families. I offer a caring, understanding approach to counseling. My first objective is to understand what brings you in for treatment and determine how I can help you achieve your goals whether it be to deal with depression, anger, loss or a defiant teenager. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family Systems to help you understand what holds you back and I provide psychotherapy and tools for change.

Change requires an awareness of thoughts and behaviors that have resulted in unsatisfying relationships and negative outcomes. But awareness alone is not enough. Change requires that you take an active role based on your awareness and make different choices.

Services
In my practice, I specialize in working with men, children and teens, AD/HD, school issues and divorce.

I use depth psychotherapy to help men and women become aware of old, familiar behavioral relationship patterns based on early childhood experiences and to discover that they have choices in the future to make different decisions. Setting boundaries, becoming more open with their feelings and asking for what they need are some of the new skills they learn as part of this work. Better, more satisfying relationships are the reward.

As parents, we are sometimes at a loss to help our children who struggle with anger, depression, anxiety or defiance. I offer a non-judgmental approach and real-life solutions to improve your child's life and change your parenting experience.

If your child doesn't seem to listen to you and has trouble focusing or is disruptive in class and at home, you may be struggling with AD/HD, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. I can provide effective techniques and resources for famiies, children and adults who struggle with these issues.

If your child is having a hard time in school and you don't know why, it can quickly become frustrating and difficult for your child, his or her teachers and for you at home. I offer a positive approach to dealing with these problems. I have worked successfully with children, and their families in school settings for the last 15 years and offer my experience to help you resolve your child's situation.

Aging is a growing issue in our country and it can be overwhelming to famiies and the older client unless they have planned for this time in their lives. Even then, the aging process can be hard as it robs the physical vitality and sometimes the mental capabilities of those we love.

I invite you to discuss your situation with me to determine if working together would be a good fit.
