Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am Laura Adams, a Marriage and Family Therapist, and I work with individuals, couples and families who want to address long term problems and patterns. It is through this kind of personal exploration that a deeper understanding can be attained and the sense of self can be strengthened. A psychodynamic approach can go below the surface to address difficult emotional problems, improve personal relationships, and stop self- destructive patterns of behavior. So often, our pasts can interfere with our lives in the present and we find ourselves suffering through the same ongoing pain. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can bring about more permanent results whereas many other forms of treatment tend to provide only a temporary fix. The therapy experience takes place in the context of a consistent, supportive relationship that provides the starting place for this kind of depth work. I am nearing the end of a psychoanalytic Doctorate Program where I have gained invaluable insight, knowledge, and experience extending beyond that of the typical counselor.

Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
