Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My specialty is working with adult individuals who have experienced traumatic childhoods, usually as a result of having mentally ill parents or caregivers. To be a child of a mentally ill parent is a unique and often painful experience. When a child is subjected to the intense needs of a mentally ill parent, that child usually grows into an adult who deals with several difficulties, such as low self-esteem, unexplained physical problems, caretaking others at the expense of self, and challenging interpersonal relationships. An adult survivor of childhood trauma may also turn to substances or behaviors in an attempt to self-soothe, as well as deal with anxiety, depression, or thoughts of suicide. In the case of childhood trauma, the wounds that are acquired at the start of life may continue to have long-term affects throughout adulthood. Your past may heavily influence your beliefs and expectations, negatively affecting how you view your current world. As an adult, however, you have the opportunity to heal the childhood wounds to the extent possible. Even though you cannot change what occurred in childhood, you can change the affect that your childhood experiences continue to have on you. With therapy, you can gain the insight and tools you need to move beyond your past and claim your life for your sake. I have over ten years of experience working with adults who have suffered from painful childhood circumstances. I have witnessed my patients transform into vital individuals who feel excited about what life has to offer them. I use talk therapy, dream analysis, and body awareness to work with the issues you are dealing with. I invite you to check out the information on my website (address noted above) to get an idea of whether or not I might be able to assist you with the issues you are facing. I also encourage you to take advantage of a free 15-minute phone consultation so that we may discuss your needs.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
