Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a California licensed Marriage & Family Therapist practicing in Torrance, California. I work with a broad spectrum of individuals, as well as couples and families. As a therapist, I create a nurturing and safe environment that is non-judgmental and caring. I often will use a cognitive-behavioral approach, providing options and tools necessary to make immediate changes in your life. My therapy gravitates toward being goal oriented and solution focused. Every client is unique, and I tailor my therapy sessions accordingly. For over 5 years I have worked as a social worker/therapist at Del Amo Hospital. In the hospital I treated adults, adolescence, and children with mental illnesses, such as depression, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and anxiety disorders. Currently, I also work for Los Angeles Unified School District as a School Psychologist. In the school, I work with children and adolescence struggling with academic, behavioral, and social problems. I work closely with parents and families to help decrease problematic behaviors in the home and at school. I have facilitated parenting groups, and I have conducted workshops to help educate parents on understanding why their child may be acting out. I began working in the field of psychology in 2001. Previous work experience also includes working with children with disabilities, adults with severe mental illness, alcohol/drug addictions, and eating disorders. I received a Bachelors degree from Boston University. I received a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. I trained to become a School Psychologist from California State University, Long Beach. I am a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and National Association of School Psychologists. My Marriage and Family Therapist license number is MFC46184.

About My Practice

Services
I work with a broad spectrum of individuals, as well as couples and families. Children and Adolescence: As a school psychologist and therapist, I work with children, adolescence and parents daily. I see children and adolescence that are experiencing academic, behavioral or social problems in the school or at home. They may have a difficult time making friends, lack impulsive control, get in fights, talk back to adults, sleep too much, or are lonely. I also work with Children and Adolescence who suffer from eating disorders, addictions, and cutting. I also offer group therapy in the office. Parenting: I believe it’s very important for all adults and caretakers to have similar and consistent parenting skills with their children. I provide solutions for parents and family members to help decrease undesirable behaviors that your child is experiencing in the home. Examples of these behaviors may include but is not limited to hitting another sibling, not wanting to go to bed, does not listen, does not complete chores, does not want to go to school, and/or does not complete his homework. I have performed parenting classes and will offer parenting groups in the office.
