Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
In my work with children for over 14 years, I find that children are very resilient. They may not be able to fully verbalize what their troubles are, but they are always able to communicate their concerns and their needs through creative means. This is why I became a play therapist, so that I could fully communicate with children, meeting them where they are at, and healing them through creative expression. When asked most children will tell you they don't know "why" they do what they do, or respond the way they do. Play therapy allows me, as the therapist, to explore their world and their anxieties in a non-threatening way. Likewise, it also allows for me to help them to heal in a similar manner. I have been trained in play therapy at UCSD and have a certificate in play therapy. I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 13 years. I enjoy working with kids and relate well to them. Contact me today to make an appointment, to see if we can get some help for your child.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
