Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Do you have a hard time accepting your body and yourself? Do you (or someone you love) spend too much time worrying about food and weight? Are you feeling depressed or anxious due to self-criticism or perfectionism?

I provide a safe and comfortable place for you to talk through whatever is getting in the way of self-acceptance or satisfaction with life. Together we will explore the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that keep you stuck or cause distress in your life. I can help you find better ways to cope, communicate and express your true self. I offer support, insight and guidance when family and friends just aren’t enough.

I’ve worked in intensive residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient settings for over 10 years treating teens and adults with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, poor body image, self-harming behaviors and low self-esteem.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
