Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I envision therapy as a pathway to self-discovery. My goal as a therapist is to creatively employ a magical blend of insight and motivation, whereby the therapist and client work together to inspire positive changes. I believe that my approach recognizes each client’s uniqueness, and I am acutely aware that no two problems are quite the same. I invite clients to gain a clearer understanding of how negative-thinking patterns can develop and lead to undesirable behaviors. It is my sincere wish to help people to acquire problem-solving skills in therapy that will help them to in weathering life’s storms. Lisa Ruderman earned her Bachelor’s degree and Secondary teaching credential at the University of California at Santa Barbara. She majored in Psychology and English. After sixteen years of teaching experience, Lisa decided to pursue her dream of becoming a Psychotherapist. She graduated with honors from the University of San Diego. Lisa has a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. After completing her practicum at Children’s Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, Lisa joined two private practices as an intern. Lisa was supervised by Trish Stanley, B.S., Psy. D, who specializes in eating disorders, and by Diana Shimkus, B.S., LCSW, who specializes in couple’s therapy. Lisa is currently in private practice at the Scripps Memorial Hospital Ximed professional building, in the La Jolla area.
