Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have extensive experience working with children ages birth to 11 years (including parent-infant relationships and toddlers). I use a variety of approaches including play therapy, sand tray, art therapy, behavioral methods and therapeutic floor time. I help families to address a range of issues e.g. parenting methods, problem behaviors at home and school, attention and hyperactivity, emotional regulation, attachment, grief and trauma. With adults, I conduct short-term counseling and in-depth psychotherapy to address relationship issues, quality of life and trauma (related to crime, accidents, sexual and physical abuse). Cognitive-behavioral therapy is also used for depression and anxiety. Co-dependency issues related to substance abuse and other addictions are addressed as needed. The participation of family members is encouraged and appreciated when therapeutically appropriate. I have been privileged to work with clients from a wide range of cultural, ethnic and racial backgrounds.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
