Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Lisa McKinnon is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, practicing in Redding, California. She lives with her husband, Robert (Bob), and their two dogs. They have five grown children between them, and 9 grandchildren. Lisa attended Shasta College (where she obtained a Fine Arts degree), CSU Chico, Simpson University, and University of San Francisco, where she earned a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology in 1999. This was followed by a three-year period of Internship, which included preparing for and passing both written and oral examinations for licensure. During her Internship, Lisa attended many trainings and developed her skills in psychotherapy and specialized areas. Lisa worked with chronic and severe mentally ill clients in Tehama County and at Guardian Psychiatric hospital in Redding. She also received specialized training and worked with juvenile sex offenders. Bob and Lisa have been in private practice since 2003 in Redding. They have obtained training in multiple areas, but some highlights include being trained in the Jeffrey Mitchell model of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD, CISM) (by Dr. Mitchell himself), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Lisa currently specializes in adults who were abused as children, trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and women's issues. She welcomes clients from all walks of life, and supports clients in their own personal views while challenging ineffective thought patterns as indicated through discord in the client's life. She has developed many positive relationships with clients over the years. Lisa's background in art leads to her personal perspective on therapy. She believes that the answer lies within the client(s) like pieces of a puzzle, and once revealed through therapy, she will assist the client in connecting the pieces to form a clear picture. The colors and design of this picture can then be changed through looking at it from a fresh perspective!
