Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have been in private practice for thirty-two years. My initial training was in marriage, family and child counseling with continued education in specific issues such as alcoholism, infidelity, domestic violence, anger management and attention deficit disorder. In 1990 I began extensive training in working with individuals who suffered trauma, depression and anxiety. I utilize EMDR and or hypnosis to assist clients in managing strong emotional reactions. I also conduct assessments, do brief counseling and offer treatment recommendations and referrals to employees of several prominent employee assistant programs.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
