Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have been in the helping profession since 1986 when I first began working in a non-profit organization which helped women involved in domestic violence. I spent 10 years working with the seriously mentally ill population and their families. This experience helped me to feel confident and comfortable in handling many types of problems and crises. I have a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology and have been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 1999. My approach in working with clients is to listen and be very present. Everyone has a story to tell. I want to hear their story. When my client is ready, we will begin to transform their story from one of suffering to a hero(ine)’s journey. This process involves self-awareness, understanding, compassion, and great courage. I offer clients practical tools for healing. Change requires work and commitment, and is definitely rewarding.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
