Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I chose the field of counseling and psychotherapy to help people gain insight into their own goodness and strength. I believe that valuing each person as unique and special brings out his or her best qualities. Over the last 20 years I have participated in the work of emotional healing and witnessed success and failure up close. Today one of the areas of practice that most interests me is High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)like Aspergers. ASD is primarily viewed as effecting social communication and oftentimes-executive functioning skills. There can be catastrophic effects for individuals and their families when social communication and executive skills malfunction. I have experienced firsthand in my own family the pain and the triumph of ASD. It motivates me to work hard at designing tools and strategies that enable individuals with ASD to achieve their dreams.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
