Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Meet Martha (Marti) McClellan-Morehouse. She is the Visionary and Managing Partner of StepINtuit Healing Arts Oasis (SHAO). She is a speaker, author, mentor coach and community activist. She also is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Recently, Marti became a wedding officiant. She specializes in officiating weddings for couples where one or both partners have been married before as well as same-sex couples. To enhance the quality of services she provides, Marti augmented her formal education. She is a Star Behavioral Health Provider, supporting active military personnel, veterans and their families. She is a Certified Youth Mental Health First Aid Provider. She is also trained in mindfulness techniques and creativity for healing. Marti’s work with clients is significantly influenced by ancient practices like the Medicine Wheel (a sacred hoop or stone monument symbolizing the cycle of life). However, she jokes that marriage, parenting and navigating the “Hot Flash Lady/Power Surge Queen” continuum revealed some of her most important life lessons. During her 16-years as a therapist, mentor, advocate, trainer and coach, Marti has provided over 10,000 hours of services to over 1,000 clients (also referred to as sojourners). She created empowerment platforms like Daughters Integrating Visions and Actions Successfully (DIVAS), a Self-love Festival and Purposeful Women of Greater Sacramento. She provided professional development training and held management/supervisor positions in organizations like, Outward Bound, D’Veal Family and Youth Services and Pacific Clinics. Marti collaborated with several Southern California organizations, including Day One, Pasadena City College and Pasadena Unified School District to assist with increasing the potential of students’ academic and social success. She was often praised for her ability to connect with clients. Event, workshop and training participants expressed their appreciation for her wit and sincere delivery of well-being and social responsibility messages. Her entrepreneurial spirit led Marti to create SHAO in 2012, to function as a portal of opportunity to live passionately, purposefully, joyously, responsibly, wisely and sacredly. Since early 2016, the platform has shifted slightly. Marti welcomed Sue Anne Bennett as a partner to help share the principles of wisdom and joy. Marti and Sue Anne are raising their voices to improve the status of women all over the world. The women they serve are executives/visionaries, entrepreneurs, busy moms, self-help enthusiast, health and well-being professionals and wounded warriors. These women are usually in transition from one phase of life to another, and seeking healing from life’s many challenges. Marti moved from Los Angeles to Sacramento, California in 2011. Since moving, she self-published a book entitled “The Wisdom Chair: A Journey from Common Sense to Divine Wisdom.” And she has served or is serving the community in the roles that follow: Board Member, Willow Tree Roots (current) Co-founder and Facilitator, Wisdom Chair SiStars (formerly known as SacTown Hot Flash Ladies Impact Group (current) Regional Director, Sacramento Valley Genuine Networking Association (2016) Practitioner, Holistic Light Rejuvenation Center (current) Action Team and Council, Sacramento Creating Community Solutions (June 2014- July 2015) Presenter, Sacramento Valley Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (SVC-CAMFT) “Challenges of Hot Flash Ladies and their Adolescent Children” (May 2015) Presenter, Effie Yeaw Nature Center “Behavior Management for Young Scholars who Challenge our Sensibilities”(May 2015) Presenter, Sacramento Genuine Networking Association “Closing the Deal with Hot Flash Ladies” (March 2015) Program Co-Chair for the SVC – CAMFT, coordinated the professional development of mental health trainees, interns and licensed therapists from (January 2014 to December 2015) Presenter, Successful Thinkers Network presentation “Wisdom Gems for Entrepreneurs” Presenter, The Love Movement “Community Intimacy” Presenter, “FACE IT!” “How we can be of Service to the Homeless Community” Creator/Coordinator/Co-Facilitator, The Self-love Festival Memberships include: National Association of Professional Women Brave Heart Women California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) Sacramento Valley Chapter of CAMFT Genuine Networking Association Happy Neighborhood Project Marti has been married since 1988. At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
