Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
The decision to begin therapy can be a daunting task, but it is also incredibly empowering. I utilize a pragmatic therapeutic approach to first assess personal struggles and collaborate with my clients to create a course of action for optimum problem resolution.

My therapeutic focus while working with clients who are struggling with addiction and/or dual diagnoses is to generate a genuine professional rapport in a non-judgmental setting to safely examine the complex human experiences that are holding the individual hostage. I encourage honest self-appraisal, personal integrity, problem resolution and absolute self-acceptance as seeds for long-term success.

I have worked with the recovery community for over two decades. My success with individuals who are motivated to improve their lives has proven especially high. I also provide professional referral assistance for both interventions and also psychiatric evaluations.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
