Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
With over 20 years of experience as a licensed therapist, I bring a unique blend of expertise gained through my work at the Children's Health Council in Palo Alto, CA. as a therapist, clinical researcher, and a trainer of psychology students there. At the same time I maintained a private therapy practice in Palo Alto where I have lived since 1975. In 1980, I received my license in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy and the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1994. In general, my therapy style is supportive and interactive, and would be described as a combined exploration with you and your goals. My background in teaching and research about children and families is helpful in understanding the individual dynamics adults bring to therapy. Combining compassion and an exploring mind with my life experiences, I work to help people dealing with family life balance, dual careers, parenting, relationships, blended families, aging, and also interracial and intercultural relationships. I also see clients with depression and anxiety as well those in significant life transitions. A special focus of my work and training has been in the area of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I currently counsel adults with ADHD in my private practice to help them understand both the challenges they confront and the strengths they have naturally to succeed. Coaching in specific strategies to deal with everyday life is also a significant part of that work. Another area of my interest is parent therapy, more than guidance and coaching, it involves the couple's work in discovering how their individual personalities, temperaments and personal needs affect and shape parenting. My passion is to help parents develop or restore confidence and belief in their own good will and instincts. I see parents learn to use this knowledge in becoming successful partners in parenting. I love doing this type of work because I know people want to experience joy and satisfaction in relationship with their children.
