Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have been helping individuals and couples for the past 20 years with relationship problems, defining career goals and life transitions. Depression and anxiety usually arise from unresolved issues and trauma, whether from childhood, adolescent or adult life events and loss. I apply psychodynamic and cognitive concepts with an eclectic mix of other theories to help clients recognize and experience their feelings and gain the insight and understanding to change and move forward in their lives. I don’t take insurance. You and I define your goals and work together to accomplish them. I will provide a statement on request for submission to your insurance company. Flexible scheduling includes weekend and evening hours.

Kelly Duggan Shearer, M.A.
Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
