Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I believe that problems occur when repressed or denied feelings are projected out onto others or into destructive patterns of behavior and negative thought processes.

I believe in the power of insight to foster change.

I feel that psychotherapy is a collaborative experience, and that we participate in a journey together. The therapeutic relationship provides opportunities to examine past and current relationships with others and with the Self.

I believe in the power of the “here and now.” By observing and reflecting upon what occurs within a session, we are able to examine and work through the deeper conflicts that occur in your life outside of therapy. Psychotherapy allows light to be shed upon deeply rooted losses, wants and needs that are often denied and locked in the shadows of the psyche. I respect the difficulty of the therapeutic journey, and therefore consider myself active and challenging yet empathetic. As I consider a good match between you and your therapist, there is no charge for the first consultation session.

Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
