Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I offer individual therapy for adults, teenagers, and children. My area of expertise consists of helping with difficulties in social relationships. Such difficulties include finding and sustaining healthy intimacy, healing from a painful break-up or divorce, school-related problems, parent-child and peer conflicts, recovering from major loss, and growing up in difficult circumstances. I am particularly suited to helping those who have cultivated their intellects and creativity but would now like to develop a greater awareness of their emotional world.

My style is warm and engaging. My clinical thinking is largely informed by the psychoanalytic tradition. For me this tradition provides the richest and most sophisticated exploration of how we love, work and play. I attend ongoing consultations with both child and adult analysts. Additionally, my sensibilities have been shaped by a longstanding interest in ancient and modern philosophy, literature, film, skateboarding and a punk rock/DIY ethos.

Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
