Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Ever get the sinking feeling that "it's happening again"? Worry about the memories, thoughts, or feelings from the past that come back to haunt you? Has your life been uprooted by an event you can't seem to get past? Do you struggle to balance your emotions and turn to other ways of coping? Maybe you're feeling lost and directionless and need to figure out where to go from here? Restructuring your life can be a daunting task, and yet life doesn't stop and wait for it to sort itself out before continuing on. My approach to therapy is designed to help you make sense out of these events, and feel confident moving forward in a healthy way. My specialties include trauma/PTSD, dissociation, eating disorders, anxiety, depression. I am genuine, client-centered, and I'll work to help you feel supported and safe. I specialize in EMDR therapy, which helps integrate and resolve disturbing memories. I'll work collaboratively with you to build our relationship on trust, authenticity, safety, and compassion. You don't have to let your past define your future - if you want to learn more, contact me!

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
