Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Have you noticed a sudden change in your teen’s behavior? Have they become irritable or angry? Are they frequently isolated and gloomy? These could be signs of trouble or simply symptoms of the tremendous adjustment today’s adolescents face. If you are concerned and having difficulty communicating with your teenager it is important to take quick action to assure your child’s well being. Adolescence can be a difficult time, both for parents and teens. If you are concerned that the wrong crowd may be influencing your teen you are not alone. Staying connected is crucial during this phase of your child’s life to provide balance to the myriad of influences they are experiencing daily. And believe it or not your teen wants and needs to stay connected, too. (They just have a peculiar way of showing it.) It may seem as though your adolescent is speaking a different language. You may feel as though your teen is pushing you away. But the truth is that your teen needs your connection and guidance more than ever in order to figure out what sort of person they want to be and what they are going to do with their life. They are filled with uncertainty and feeling the pressure of looming adulthood. The good news is you can stay connected with your teen during this difficult period. Connection is about really listening to your teenager. During this time they need to know you care deeply about them and understand their unique experience of early adulthood. I have helped many families and teens improve their ability to communicate effectively. You can reconnect and stay connected with your teenager!
