Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
For the past twelve years, I have been involved in assisting adolescents with various life transitions. Largely, those transitions have been from high school to college, but can include any time that adolescents or families find themselves in need of a kind and supportive hand. For parents and teens alike, adolescence can be a long, sometimes confusing road. They won’t always see things the same way. My approach seems to work especially well with teens and families who are struggling with some of these issues. Teens expect far too much from themselves. Teenagers are invited into a space where there is no expectation and where they are free to be themselves, without fear of judgement or misunderstanding. Parents are invited into a space where they can acquire language that will help them communicate more openly with their kids, and sometimes with each other.

Services
Individual, family and group therapy. I provide therapy to children (age six and older), teens, adults and families, and specialize in working with adolescents and the family system. I also specialize in working with members of the LGBT community. Therapy is most commonly provided in 50-minute individual or family sessions, though some sessions may be longer as needed. I also provide group therapy for individuals coping with a similar issue where group work could be helpful.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
