Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Everyone's journey is unique, yet few are without struggle. Life can be complicated and challenging, giving rise to difficult emotions, self doubt, harmful behaviors, and relationship issues, but you don't need to face it alone. I offer a safe, compassionate environment in which we can work together to explore your concerns, as well as your capabilities and strengths. I believe therapy is one of the few places in our lives where we can get to know our true selves--to let down the protective walls, to get underneath reactive emotions, to challenge assumptions and explore hopes and fears. It is my hope that I can facilitate that process with you. I believe that when we have a deep awareness of our true self, we are able to make choices that support the life we want. The foundation of my approach is to work collaboratively with you in an engaged and lively process. Working with a Gestalt approach, which includes somatic and mindful awareness, I will pay close attention to what is unfolding in the moment for you and between us. I am also an Art Therapist and, when appropriate, may suggest that the inclusion of a creative process as tool to enhance exploration, expression and growth. Sometimes current struggles are linked to past experiences that have not been fully resolved. Many people suffer from trauma for years without realizing the impact of it on their lives I use EMDR Therapy, a neurological and somatic based treatment that is effective in addressing trauma of all kinds, including emotional abandonment in childhood, physical or sexual abuse, significant loss, exposure to violence or life-threatening situations.
