Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Minoo Saeedvafa is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She has been in private practice since 1997, and currently provides clinical supervision for MFT interns as well. Dr. Saeedvafa is also a registered Music Therapist, and in addition to traditional therapy methods, uses the following adjuncts to maximize her clients’ therapy sessions: music therapy, guided imagery, stress management and relaxation techniques. Dr. Saeedvafa specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which integrates elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects. She has used EMDR with success in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, rape recovery, abuse or neglect, abandonment experiences, marital betrayals, difficult divorces, excessive anger, rapid relief for anxiety, phobias and fears (such as public speaking, heights, dental work, stage fright and test taking). Dr. Saeedvafa also specializes in bicultural issues and helps clients who are having difficulty adjusting to a new culture, or are dealing with bicultural parenting issues. She works extensively with the Persian and Armenian communities in the Los Angeles area. Working with individuals, couples, families, and groups, Dr. Saeedvafa’s style is interactive and empathic, helping clients to learn how to meet their needs and create satisfying relationships.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
