My work as a therapist is to help resolve conflict and promote peace. I assist individuals, couples, and families to achieve greater understanding of the important people in their lives – including themselves. Together we seek to improve communication and implement productive new behaviors.
As a couples and family therapist, I am influenced by Bowen’s Family Systems theory, which views the family as an emotionally interdependent whole. My role is to aid in fostering self-reflection, decreasing anxiety in the system, separating thoughts from feelings, tracing family patterns, and understanding the structure and process of their relationships.
I am also influenced by Weiss’ Control Mastery theory, which contends that, in order to survive psychologically challenging situations, people adopt negative beliefs about themselves that later make it difficult to find joy or fulfillment in life. I work as a partner with clients as they seek to understand and overcome these obstacles.
