Personal Statement:
Dr. Nancy L. Shannon has been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for 34 years. She holds a Master of Science degree in clinical psychology from California State University at Los Angeles and a Doctorate of Psychology degree in clinical psychology from The Fielding Institute. She worked in an outpatient mental health clinic, an outpatient drug abuse treatment facility, and the children's unit of a psychiatric hospital in the 1970s. She was a therapist in a special education day school and a program designer for group homes for children and adolescents with dual diagnoses of developmental disabilities and psychiatric disorders in the 1980s and 1990s. She has written several successful grant proposals, taught in a community college and a university, given inservice training to various staff, and trained young men to be big brother companions for boys without fathers. She currently has a private practice in Palm Desert, CA.
