Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My psychotherapy practice includes care and treatment of individuals, couples, families, and groups. While I specialize in eating disorders, I also treat and/or have years of experience treating the following: Communication problems in Couples/Individuals, Low Self-Esteem, Sexual Orientation Issues, Infertility, and Childhood Abuse. My use of psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy, combined with an art therapy/expressive arts approach, encourages the development of the individual’s unique path to change. I base my practice on strengthening the individual and her/his support system to embrace change in the way that feels most natural and authentic. In my use of these therapies, my greatest concern is to understand and respect the needs of the client. I work collaboratively so that together we can arrive at the therapeutic goals. Please visit www.ErasingED.com to learn about my documentary film, Erasing ED, which chronicles the inspiring eating disorder recovery stories of five of my former clients. Additionally, I wrote the Erasing ED Treatment Manual, a companion to the film, and a training resource for psychology graduate students, and mental/physical healthcare providers. Erasing ED, the film, can be seen on PBS nationally.
