Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Often when we are challenged with the stresses of everyday living, fear, anger, anxiety, and depression set in. Our emotional state usually affects our relationships at home, work, and in our social circles. We may find ourselves acting out our anger, isolating with fear or depression, or reaching for alcohol or drugs to soothe our anxiety. Eventually we recognize that our coping strategies are not working, and in fact are making things worse. Shame and guilt often prevents us from reaching out to our closest friends and family for support, and we may even alienate them with our behaviors. Has a recent loss - a break-up, a job, or a death - found you isolated and inconsolably lonely, even among friends? Have you ever felt so misunderstood in a relationship that you find yourself struggling with low self-esteem or depression? Have you ever been so stressed out that the only thing that seems to take the edge off is a drink... or something stronger? We all seek ways to make peace with ourselves and make sense of our experiences, yet too many times I've seen personal coping strategies deliver destructive blows instead of relief. I have over fourteen years of experience working with people who have overcome their feelings of being emotionally overwhelmed. My experience includes substance use and addiction treatment in residential and outpatient settings, expertise in HIV/AIDS and LGBT communities, and several years in a hospice setting providing bereavement support. I'll offer you a compassionate and collaborative approach in a safe and comfortable space. We will explore what doesn't seem to be working for you, and uncover your strengths and enhance them to help you develop the skills to make positive changes in your life. I believe that everyone can use support in developing skills necessary to live healthy lives, and helping you to cultivate trust and improve communications is a great place to start. I offer a non-judgmental, compassionate and collaborative approach for support in dealing with: -Anxiety Relief -Depression Resolution -Grief and Loss Adjustment -Substance Abuse or Addiction -LGBT and Sexuality Empowerment -Living with HIV/AIDS My approach is one that makes the most sense to help you find the solutions you seek, which blends elements from many theories, including: -Client-Centered Existential Therapy -Mindfulness & Compassionate Mind Training -Solution-Focused Therapy -Narrative Therapy -Cognitive Behavioral Therapy -Dialectical Behavioral Therapy -Eye Movement Desensitization/Reprocessing -Psychodynamic Therapy I currently take many Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Magellan mental health insurance plans . If you are not currently covered by these insurance plans, I will gladly provide you with the documentation necessary to assist you with reimbursement from your insurance carrier. I accept major credit cards for any payments not covered by insurance, and I provide discount incentives for checks or cash paid at the time your session has been completed.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Temecula, CA

I’ve been in private practice in Temecula since 1990. I work with individuals, couples and families on a variety of issues, using a straight-forward approach to problem solving. While I listen with empathy, I am an “active” therapist, meaning I make suggestions, give direction and homework to partner with my clients so they can solve their problems in a timely, effective manner.
