Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Pam Sweeney, another New-Age Marin psychotherapist? Actually, I'm a down-to-earth therapist with experience in helping people who are coping with depression, anxiety and relationship crises. I use the therapeutic method which is most appropriate and comfortable for each situation. On one hand, I may take a somewhat cognitive behavioral approach in dealing with some kinds of problems, such as depression and anxiety. On the other hand, specific techniques such as EMDR or art therapy may be most helpful to my client in expressing and working through the issues that bring him/her into therapy. In addition to working with children, I collaborate with parents about parenting (both double and single-types), divorce, child development and temperament; consulting with other professionals as needed. I am especially interested in working with children who are shy, or have been labeled socially phobic. My office is centrally located in San Rafael, and I can offer both day and evening hours. I am currently forming a small, supportive therapy group for men who are struggling with depression and work issues. Please call for an interview : 415-455-5468 (sliding scale available)

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
