Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My approach is eclectic and depends on what is appropriate for your unique needs. If you are in need of developing more day-to-day stress management skills, an approach that works on self-regulation may be beneficial. If you want to heal from past traumas, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is another modality that I can utilize. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is a technique I use sometimes to help with distorted thinking. In general, my work with clients is strength-based, affirming one's journey toward a fulfilling life. All these "tools in the toolbox" are useful but even more beneficial can be just having the attention on you, listening to your story and offering non-judgmental support.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
