Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My approach focuses on making positive changes that help you right now, to improve your life now and in the future, rather than focusing our attention primarily on the past. Sometimes we might take a look at earlier times in your life in order to identify patterns — but always with the goal of current and lasting change. I make therapy as practical and “user-friendly” as possible, so that you’re always clear about how we see the problem and how and why we’re making changes. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on taking a look at how we tend to think and behave, and how these thought and behavior patterns affect our lives, with the aim of creating positive change in feelings and in relationships. It’s proven effective in treating anxiety and depression, and in changing long-term patterns that might not be helping you. Solution-focused therapy focuses what you want to achieve — the solution or the goal — rather than on the nature of the problem. We look at strengths and assets that you’re already bringing to the table, but that you might be overlooking. From there, we develop new strategies that take a different approach than what might not have worked so well in the past. Let’s keep our eye on the ball and figure out what helps you get there.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
