Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a cognitive behavioral therapist with an emphasis in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Hoarding, and Impulse Control Disorders. As a therapist, my goal is to provide a safe place where people can explore their fears and begin fighting back. To do this, I use a combination of cognitive and behavioral therapies both in my office and on site. As a therapist, I provide a safe and supportive environment in which individuals, couples, and families all can grow and develop the necessary skills to have a more fulfilling and satisfying life. I have helped individuals, couples, families, and therapeutic groups with a wide range of issues. These include issues that are more serious in nature, such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, and psychotic disorders, as well as issues that we find people struggling with everyday, such as communication or child-parent interactions. When providing therapy to an individual, I believe it is important to take a “systems approach,” which means taking into consideration both the individual(s) sitting in my office with me as well as the context (relationships, school, work) that they present with outside my office. In addition to my training and experience with individuals and families struggling with OCD, I am also experienced in working with: -children with behavioral issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and inattention and/or hyperactivity -couples who are looking to enhance their relationship -couples who experience “high conflict” in their relationship (especially around raising mutual children while separated) -adults who struggle with “co-occuring disorders,” which means they have an addiction to alcohol and/or drugs in addition to a mental health disorder (i.e. depression, anxiety, bipolar, personality) I have found that my experiences mentioned above have only aided in my ability to treat those with OC spectrum disorders, as many individuals who struggle with these issues often have other problems they are dealing with in addition to the OC spectrum disorder.

About My Practice

Office Hours
10a.m. to 6p.m. Monday-Friday
As a therapist, my goal is to provide the most effective treatment for individuals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Hoarding, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling), Excoriation (Dermatillomania - Skin Picking), and Tics/Tourette's. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), specifically Exposure & Response Prevention to help those suffering with OCD, Hoarding, BDD, and Habit Reversal Therapy to help those with Impulse Control Disorders and Tics, as these evidence based treatments have proven to be the most effective. I believe with the right tools and support, people can learn to address these struggles and thrive. I also provide family members of those individuals who are suffering with the education they will need to better understand these disorders in order to help support those they care about. Couples and family therapy are often helpful to aid in the sufferer's treatment, but are not always necessary. I provide therapy both in my office and at home for those who need it. Additionally, I may provide therapy via video chat for California residents who are unable to leave their homes and/or are not located in or near the San Diego area when appropriate.
