I have been working in the field of mental health for the past five years and have experience working with a broad range of clients including adults, teens, children (and sometimes their parents) and couples. I've worked with young adults, some struggling with romantic relationships, and others trying to understand difficult family members. I've also worked with seniors finding themselves caring for aging parents. I have K-12 Teaching credentials, and like working with children, teens, teachers, school administrators and parents. I enjoyed my time and got good feedback from the schools I worked at including Oster, Graystone, and Carlton Elementary Schools and Hayward and Overfelt High Schools. I have concentrated on assisting these children/teens in developing their self-esteem, as well as healthy coping skills. I also have an MBA and corporate work experience, and can relate to clients who are seeking satisfaction and security in their work, in ever demanding and changing work environments.
I did my internship work at Crisis Support Services in Alameda County and Almaden Valley Counseling Services (AVCS) in San Jose. I've worked with clients in school settings, at the clinic at AVCS, at a private industry council, and in private practice. I've also taught parenting classes for families with preschoolers, school age children and adolescents.
I have a warm and empathetic approach with clients, but am able to hold them accountable for their words and actions. I enjoy the process of engaging with my clients, helping them to examine their inner emotional landscape, and discovering strategies with them to disrupt negative patterns, face their personal challenges, and strengthen their relationships. In working with male clients who have relationship problems, I like to stress emotional intelligence as a strength in improving communication and enhancing intimacy.
Improving self-esteem; becoming more assertive; becoming more independent vs. codependent; striving for abundance and happiness vs. “settling” for marginal jobs or relationships/“making excuses” are some of the common themes that have run through my work. I truly enjoy helping people to help themselves and helping empower them to make better choices and strive for personal happiness and healthy lifestyles.
