Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I help people to overcome difficulties in their lives and relationships. You may need a place to talk or to explore difficulties and concerns in a neutral and confidential environment. I listen with empathy and compassion and then work collaboratively with you to create a path for reaching your goals and improving your feelings of well-being. I am particularly skilled at helping people to deal with relationship problems, loss, grief, life transitions, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression. I enjoy helping people along a path of self-growth and greater authenticity. In practice for 8 years, I have previously worked at the UC Davis Employee Assistance Program, and at Yolo Family Service Agency. I would be happy to talk with you by phone to get a better idea about how we might proceed.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
